由英国伦敦艺术大学中央圣马丁艺术设计学院（Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design，University of Arts London）MA Creative Practice for Narrative Environments和中国美术学院艺术设计学院综合设计系联合主办的《2007---2008 “城市的再叙述”国际创意新设计远程合作项目》于2007年11月9日下午6时，在中国美术学院象山校区的综合设计系拉开帷幕。

该项目将为期4个月，通过伦敦----杭州远程网路教育交流的方式，就有关如何运用“叙述性的环境”这一全新的整合设计的理论与方法论，以杭州、伦敦为例，从独特的向度对城市文化、城市身份以及城市生命的等问题作深入研究，并最终建构叙述性的、可实时跨国界交互体验的“城市文化地图”系统。项目的结果最终将通过实时连线的展览方式，在2008年3月英国“China Now”中英文化年的活动中，以特展的方式呈现。

开幕式以远程网络会议的方式直接联线英国的项目现场，在热烈的气氛中，双方领导和师生作了为时3小时的交流与探讨。出席开幕式的有：中国美术学院艺术设计学院王雪青副院长、赵燕副院长、范广益副院长和该项目中方负责人、中国美术学院综合设计系主任周刚教授；英国伦敦艺术大学中央圣马丁艺术设计学院MA CPfNE 系主任暨该项目英方负责人Patricia Austin教授、项目导师Dale Russell教授、Man Somerlink教授；该项目总策划人、中方执行负责人、设计批评及创意策划人姚之洁女士。

Creative Practice for Narrative Environments （创意性实践的叙述性环境）是设立在英国伦敦中央圣马丁艺术设计学院内的硕士专业。作为先锋的整合设计概念，她从创意产业的广度切入，将建筑、设计、策划、写作以及项目管理等内容容于一体，通过合适的多元感官形式语言、媒介运用在一个空间（虚拟/真实）内创造环境（虚拟/真实）、制造体验，以达到对一个“故事”（主题）的叙述。这一设计概念，可运用在展览设计策划、综合活动设计策划、历史遗迹展示、休闲娱乐体验、品牌环境、产品发布、城市环境、公共空间等等方面。

作为中国顶尖艺术设计学院的中国美术学院，一直站在中国艺术设计的前沿，以其国际化的学术敏感性引领中国设计的发展。艺术设计学院综合设计系就是最好的例证。多元化的学术结构、开放的教学与实验内容、多样化的教学方式是综合设计系学科研究与教学实践的鲜明特色。

此次强强的联合，有如下重要意义：
1、“叙述性的环境”这一新的整合设计理念首次在中国设计界着陆。这将从先锋的理论和实践两方为中国设计在该领域的发展翻开全新的一页，创设计教育的先河，并使之与世界接轨。
2、站在相当的学术高度，以设计的方式关注城市、文化与交流的主题。
3、运用高科技手段建构并试验了远程教育交流的手段，也实现了在教育中切实实施双语教学。

有关采访：
记者（以下简称记）：姚之洁女士，作为项目的总策划人，请您谈谈策划该项目的初衷？
姚之洁（以下简称姚）：这个想法早在我于英国留学期间就已形成，因为出于如下几点考虑：1、我本人就毕业于中央圣马丁艺术设计学院的MA CPfNE课程，在深入接触该新型学科过程中，我敏感到，作为先锋设计的理论和方法论，十分有必要将它引入到国内的设计界。2、在中国和英国的设计界之间建立有机、深入、专业且可持续发展的文化沟通桥梁。3、恰逢北京和伦敦同时将成为奥运会的主办城市，于是，用“叙述性的环境”这个设计理论与方法论为指导，实现对“城市文化”主题的思考，并创造独特的城市文化访问体验，将会别有意义。
整个事件酝酿有一年。 项目的提案得到了中国美术学院的共识，在宋建明院长全力支持和综合设计系主任周刚教授的积极推动下，现正式启动了。我本人对此充满信心。

记：请您介绍一下项目的具体内容？
姚：我们知道，通常参观者旅行到世界各地参加各种大型的体育盛会或者博览会并希望在逗留期间留下最丰富的有关那个城市或国家的记忆。主办那些大型体育盛会或文化活动的城市也希望通过这些活动全面展现该城市乃至国家的面貌，提升国际的影响力，并吸引旅游者们再次归来。然而，参观者们往往跟随不同的旅游指南，参观各景点，但是没有和当地的人文文化有任何深入的接触，因此也遗失了城市中隐藏的精华部分。
这个项目旨在超越一般的城市导游系统，设计建立一个在线的，面对面的交流和实时体验的城市文化数据库系统。通过该系统，可以让参观者经历体验一个根据他们个人兴趣爱好量身定做的特殊旅程。项目组的各团队，将会设计、发展和创立一个独特的个性化系统以实现人们可以以特殊的方式真实可信地探索、认知互相的城市，发掘故事，分享体验和经历。

记：这个项目在设计上的终极目标有何独特性？
姚：这个项目将挑战如下设计问题：如何进化和发展促进“交流”的催化剂；如何为使用者提供更多的连通和交换的机会；如何将最终的系统设计成为永久的可不断发展和成长的成果。

记：对于这个新的设计理论未来的发展，您有何看法？
姚：对于“Narrative Environments”这个设计新理论，现在只是一个开端，接下来会有更多的探讨和实践，希望以后可以在国内推广，并在本世纪成为业内前沿理论之一。

Cities tell stories. Each city has its own story based on its history and its hopes for the future. The story of the city is expressed through its particular mix of layout, flows, buildings, sounds, images and the life styles of its inhabitants. Cities are complex organisms each with a different voice and a different narrative. People travel the world to immerse themselves in the spirit of places and grasp at least some small elements of that narrative. For example, when people flock to the Shanghai Expo or the London Olympics, they will not just be looking at the exhibitions or the games, they will want to explore the city and take away personal memories. Likewise the people of London and the people of Shanghai want visitors to sample the magic of their cities and return again.

Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, one of the best known art and design institutions in the world, has developed a new post graduate course, MA Creative Practice for Narrative Environments which promotes the research and design of places through stories. The students use story telling techniques to design urban environments, heritage sites, exhibitions, events, retail and leisure experiences. The work produced by students has won prestigious awards such as the UK’s D&AD award, the UK’s Royal Philharmonia Award 2007, and is included in the global INDEX Award exhibition, currently touring the world till 2009. The course advocates multidisciplinary collaboration between architects, spatial designers, graphic and moving image designers, writers and psychologists. Teams work together to make complex multi-sensory environments that provide both information and immersive experiences for visitors.

The collaboration with the CAA is an exceptional opportunity to develop new ways of offering visitor experiences through an ambitious international collaboration. The project arises through the joint vision of the Course Director of  MACPfNE, Tricia Austin and one of our recent alumni, Zhijie Yao who is now teaching at CAA. Together we recognized the potential to build a bridge between the UK and China, between London and Hangzhou, between CSM and CAA, between the staff and students in both universities by developing a creative brief for a novel way to introduce visitors to our respective cities. We are looking beyond the standard city guide to provide a one-to-one service that allows visitors to experience the “real, authentic” gems of our two cities. This is a project we see as the beginning of a long-term creative relationship between CSM and CAA that will have tangible outcomes for all concerned.

The two universities are collaborating using new video conferencing facilities. Students are working in mixed teams exploring each others’ cultures and cities. The multidisciplinary teams will work together to create multi-sensory environments combing architecture, moving image, sound and text. Importantly our methods involve starting with the stories of city inhabitants, in other words how people make friends, establish as sense of belonging, play and interact. These stories will then be mapped onto the physical structure of the cities in order to provide a new kind of cartography that correlates the intangible, cultural dimension of experience with particular places. Our methods are draw from the rich history of narrative pratcice. We collect stories, we create stories, we give those stories form, we map stories onto spaces and we create platforms for people to tell their own stories.
